BASIC UTILITIES These two diskettes contain a
number of commonly used
UNIX commands including file, help, diff and pg.
This package, while not mandatory, would be
difficult for most users to
do without.
ADVANCED UTILITIES These three diskettes contain
additional UNIX commands and programs including
uucp, vi, and dd, as well as
all of the files associated with the print spooler.
Depending on how you use your system,
you might be able to do without This package.
However, most users seem to need
at least vi.
ADMINISTERED SYSTEMS These three diskettes
contain the sysadm
programs and associated files as well as a number
of other administrative
files such as fsdb, fstyp and makefsys.
You must
install This package in order to use sysadm,
which is useful for performing UNIX
administrative functions.
SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT These five diskettes
contain the software
associated with program development.
They include the C compiler, the as
and ljas assemblers, make,
lex and yacc, lint
and the library and include files.
This package are optional;
you should install them only if you are using your Opus
system for programming.
TERMINAL INTERFACE This diskette contains
software which allows
application programs to perform terminal handling
functions.
It includes files used by curses
and terminfo.
The CORE diskettes provide a small subset of files
that support some of the more common terminals types
including dumb\f1,
vt100\f1, opus-ansi\f1, and opus-pc\f1.
Thus, if you are not concerned about running on unusual
types of terminals, you probably do not need this
software.
ASSIST These two diskettes contain the
programs and files required by
the assist on-line tutorial.
This package might be useful for people
who are new to UNIX or need a refresher course.
If you are comfortable with your knowledge of UNIX, you
might not need these.
FORTRAN77 This diskette contains the AT&T portable
FORTRAN compiler and related programs and libraries.
Install this diskette only if you are compiling FORTRAN programs.
Note that the
Software Development diskettes must also be installed
in order to use FORTRAN under UNIX.
GRAPH This diskette contains the software
necessary to use the System V
graph utilities.
These programs take graph-specific input and
produce a device independent graphical primitive
string (GPS) which can then
be passed through a filter to produce output for a display terminal.
Filters are provided for DASI 300, 300s, and 450 terminals,
the Tektronix 4014 and the Versatec D1200A.
The graph utilities
are used to create bar charts, line graphs and the like.
Most sites do not use this diskette.
