section 2.2 for other TMS340 cards.
.H 2 "Instructions for ARTIST and WYSE Cards"
.AL
.LI
Bring the system down gracefully to DOS.
.DS
	\f4# shutdown\f1
.DE
.LI
Insert the diskette labeled \f2Age DOS files\f1 into drive A,
and type the following:
.sp
.DS
	\f4a:install <card_type>\f1
.DE
.P
where \f4<card_type>\f1 is one of the following:
.BL

(Refer to Section 2.2 for instructions for other TMS340 cards.)
.LE
.P
The installation script installs a new version of \f3C:\\AUTOEXEC.BAT\f1.
It saves the old version as \f3C:\\AUTOEXEC.SAV\f1, or
\f3C:\\AUTOEXEC.SV\f1 (if \f3C:\\AUTOEXEC.SAV\f1 exists).
.P
In addition, if you are running the Ultragraphics 19" monitor, the
installation script installs a new version of \f3C:\\CONFIG.SYS\f1,
in which the following line (a driver specifically for the
Ultragraphics 19" monitor) is removed.
(Your old \f3C:\\CONFIG.SYS\f1 file is saved in \f3C:\\CONFIG.SAV\f1.)
.DS
	\f4device=c:\\\\opus\\\\rambios.exe 0xC000\f1
.DE
.P
After these modifications, the script copies the files
from the diskette. It displays the names of the files as they are
copied, and a message when it has finished copying files from the
\f2Age DOS files\f1 diskette.
.LI
When prompted, insert the \f2Age DOS X11.ALM files\f1 diskette and
type the following:
.DS
	\f4a:install <card_type>\f1
.DE
.P
where \f4<card_type>\f1 is the same value you specified in the previous step.
.P
Again, the script displays the file names as they are copied from the
diskette, and a message when it has finished copying files from the
\f2Age DOS X11.ALM files\f1 diskette.
.LI
If you had modified your old \f3C:\\AUTOEXEC.BAT\f1 or \f3C:\\CONFIG.SYS\f1
files, refer to the saved versions to add back the appropriate changes to
the new versions of the files. Do not restore the original files.
.LI
If you are replacing an existing graphics card,
turn the power off on the system and remove the existing video card.
Replace it with the a TMS340 graphics controller card (ARTIST TI12 or
WYSE WY-8400).
Do not change the factory-set address configuration switches
or jumper positions. The factory settings for the ARTIST
and WYSE graphics controller cards are shown in Section 3.
.P
After you have installed the new card, turn the power on.
The system automatically boots DOS. The messages indicate that
the TIGA driver and linking loader have been installed.
.LI

.SK
.LI
\f3WYSE card instructions:\f1
.P
The program displays the Opus default board and monitor
types for the WYSE WY-8400 card.
From this program, you can specify the amount of memory
on the graphics card, but not a different card or monitor type.
.DS
\f4Would you like to use the Opus defaults?

The Opus defaults for the WY-8400 are:
Board: WY-8400 with 512K display list memory
	Monitor: Wyse WY-890N (1024 x 768, 256 color)

	Enter[y/n]:\f1
.DE
.P
If you are using the default board and monitor, type \f4y\f1, and go
to step 12.
.P
If your board has the 2MB display list memory option, type \f4n\f1.
The following prompt is displayed:
.DS
\f4Do you have the WY-8400-2MB memory upgrade option?\f1
.DE
.P
Type \f4y\f1. (If you answer \f4n\f1, the program
assumes that you have the 512K display list memory after all.)
Go to step 12.
.LI
After you provide the requested information about your graphics
card and monitor, the program installs the appropriate
files in the DOS \f3C:\\TIGA\f1 directory and adds an entry (similar
to the following) to your \f3C:\\OPUS.CFG\f1 file.
.DS
	\f4<X=X11:0(display=age,pointer=logitech)>\f1
.DE
If you were using an alternate tty device for the mouse, the
installation script attempts to specify the appropriate tty device.
However, if you have more than one X entry in \f3C:\\OPUS\\OPUS.CFG\f1, the
script picks up the tty device from the \f2last\f1 X entry. It is
strongly suggested that you examine this file before starting the
X Window System.
.LI
Bring the system down gracefully to DOS.
.DS
	\f4shutdown\f1
.DE
.LI
When the DOS prompt \f4C:\\OPUS>\f1 appears, power off the computer.
.LI
Turn the power on. The system automatically boots into DOS.
.LI
Boot UNIX.
.DS
	\f4C> unix\f1
.DE
.SK
.LI
If your system is running TCP/IP or NFS, skip this step.
.P
If your system is \f3not\f1 running TCP/IP or NFS, you must add
an entry for your system to the local \f3/etc/hosts\f1 file.
(If the entry is not present, the X Window System hangs when invoked.)
If the \f3/etc/hosts\f1 file does not exist, create a new one with
a single entry,
.DS
	\f489.0.0.1 <hostname>\f1
.DE
.P
where \f4<hostname>\f1 is the name of your system (as displayed
with \f3uname\f1). The numbers at the beginning of the entry
have no effect on the system, but they must be present for
the AGE server to function correctly.
.LE
.P
This completes the installation of the high-resolution color software
for the \f2X Window System\f1 on the 400PM and the PM/8000.
.P
To start the \f2X Window System\f1, type \f4X11\f1 at the UNIX prompt.
Refer to the manual page for \f3X11\f1 at the end of this document for more
information.

(Your old \f3C:\\CONFIG.SYS\f1 file is saved in \f3C:\\CONFIG.SAV\f1.)
.DS

version 1.1.890830 or later.
.LI
If you had modified your old \f3C:\\AUTOEXEC.BAT\f1 or \f3C:\\CONFIG.SYS\f1
files, refer to the saved versions to add back the appropriate changes to
the new versions of the files. Do not restore the original files.
.LI
After you have copied the TIGA files, insert the diskette labeled
\f2Age DOS X11.ALM files\f1 and type the following:
.DS
	\f4a:install other\f1
.DE
.P
The script displays the following message. (The procedures outlined in
the message are described in more detail in the next few steps
of these instructions.)
.DS
\f4You will need to create the file X11.ALM and install
	it in the directory \\\\TIGA.

Reboot your system with the newly modified \\\\AUTOEXEC.BAT,
and then enter the following command:

	C:\\\\TIGA\\\\MAKEALM

.P
If your system is \f3not\f1 running TCP/IP or NFS, you must add
an entry for your system to the local \f3/etc/hosts\f1 file.
If the entry is not present, the X Window System hangs when invoked.
If the \f3/etc/hosts\f1 file does not exist, create a new one with
a single entry,
.DS
	\f489.0.0.1 <hostname>\f1
.DE
.P
where \f4<hostname>\f1 is the name of your system (as displayed
with \f3uname\f1). The numbers at the beginning of the entry
have no effect on the system, but they must be present for
the AGE server to function correctly.
.LE
.P
This completes the AGE UNIX software installation, and the
installation of the DOS \f3X11.ALM\f1 file.
Depending on your vendor, you \f2might\f1 need to
install or configure additional DOS files before you can
run the X Window System with your new graphics card.
Refer to your manufacturer's installation guide to determine if
additional DOS files are required.
.P
To start the \f2X Window System\f1 after you have made sure all the
required DOS files are in place, type \f4X11\f1 at the UNIX prompt.
Refer to the manual page for X11 at the end of this document for more
information.

.H 1 "KNOWN PROBLEMS"
The following are known problems in the updated beta release of the AGE
software.
.AL
.LI
The arrow keys on the numeric keypad do not work. However, if your keyboard
is equipped with a second, separate set of arrow keys, they will function
properly.
.LI
The command \f4dos REMOTE\f1 does not work properly and can cause the
system to hang.
.LI
The standard Opus DEL (ctrl-backspace), does not work once you are in X,
nor does the DEL key on the numeric keypad. However, if your keyboard is
equipped with a second, separate DEL key, it will function properly.
To change your DEL key to some other sequence, for example ctrl-c, execute
the following command.
.DS
	\f4stty intr '^c'\f1
.DE
If you want this change to be permanent, insert this line in
the \f3.profile\f1 or \f3.cshrc\f1 file of any user who will be running the
X Window System.
.LI
Due to memory restrictions on the 286 or 386 I/O processor,
you cannot run the X Window System on a computer that contains
MEGAPORT serial adapter cards.
.LI
On systems that \f3are not\f1 running TCP/IP or NFS, the X Window System
hangs when invoked, unless there is an entry for the system in the
local \f3/etc/hosts\f1 file. (The background pattern is displayed in the
"root window," but the login and password prompts are never displayed.)
.P
To correct the problem, you must
add an entry for your system to the local \f3/etc/hosts\f1 file.
If the \f3/etc/hosts\f1 file does not exist, create a new one with
a single entry,
.DS
	\f489.0.0.1 <hostname>\f1
.DE
.P
where \f4<hostname>\f1 is the name of your system (as displayed
with \f3uname\f1). The numbers at the beginning of the entry
have no effect on the system, but they must be present for
the AGE server to function correctly.
.LI
Some graphics controller cards require separate monitors
for text and graphics.
If only one monitor is connected to such a controller card, the monitor
can lose text emulation mode when \f3TIGACD\f1 (the graphics kernel
on the TMS340 card) is invoked.
To correct the problem, you can connect a second monitor and controller.
A second, less desirable, solution is to invoke \f3TIGACD\f1 manually each
time you want to start up the X Window System, and then type the \f3X11\f1
command blindly at the blank monitor.
