The files marked patch-* in the directories below contain the patches for
the files of versions 1.37.1 and earlier of the GNU C compiler. These
patches were created to support the allocation of shared memory static
objects on shared memory multiple processors, particularly the encore
machines.

These patches will be incorporated into the GNU C compiler at its next
release.

A new patch, contained in the patch-recog.c file, patches a GNU C compiler
bug which generates bad code for the National Semiconductor NS32K processor
in certain situations for GNU C 1.37 and less. This patch came from
Richard M. Stallman, author of the GNU C compiler and has been applied in
GNU C 1.39.

A new patch, in the gcc-1.40 subdirectory, in the patch-final.c file,
patches the GCC-1.40 compiler to generate non-shared profiling counter
pointers, even if the -fshared-data flag is specified. This is
required for correct profiling with a multiprocessor Sequent, in
concert with the uSystem supplied mcrt0.o file.
