This is the RPCC stub comipiler in its current (rather rough) state.

The usenix paper is in Doc/(instructions, macros, paper); the instructions
file tells how to print it out. The rest of the documentation is either
"troff -me" input (.me files) or the man page (rpcc.1). The .me files also
require bib; the references are in the file Refs.

The Makefile in the top level directory should build the stub compiler.
Note that the compiler is actually "rpc2"; the shell script "rpcc" uses the
C compiler to preprocess the source and then passes it to rpc2.

The code as it stands only implements the "/*REMOTE*/" directive; the
others discussed in the Usenix talk (dealing with error handling and host
naming) haven't been programmed yet. The other point to watch for is that
I think it's producing the wrong number of '*'s in front of some things in
the output; try running some output through lint.

Whoever works on this stuff should check out Apollo's Network Computing
Architecture stuff (they had a couple of papers in the Summer 1987 Usenix).
Aside from it being proprietary and really expensive (at least for source),
it would be my dream stub compiler if somebody wrote a front end that
worked from Ansi C function prototypes.

Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions about the code
or any of the documentation.
